As a New Yorker odds are you've seen the Statue of Liberty, gone to the top of the Empire State, walked the High Line, enjoyed a bottomless brunch in the west village, explored the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), clapped for a Broadway show, seen the Naked Cowboy in Times Square or watched a free movie at Bryant Park.
So what's left for us New Yorkers that love to explore, but hate typical tourist attractions or have exhausted nearly every activity which our friends have advised us to try? This is one of my favorite excursions in NYC that I could do over and over again:
Take a helicopter flight over NYC.
You won't find a better view of the city than this. Seeing the big apple at a lower altitude than a commercial plane provides a stunning look at the city that never sleeps.
The standard tour lasts for approx. 15-20 minutes, but there are deluxe packages that last twice as long and fly over more sites. The pilot narrates interesting facts and information about the city during your trip, and there is a photo op beside the helicopter when you return to the helipad.
Another plus to this excursion is that you can do it over and over again: once to enjoy the sunrise, at dusk to see a beautiful sunset, or during different seasons to witness the changing colors in Central Park.
I rode with Manhattan Helicopters which depart daily from 9:00am to 6:30pm.
