Flu season is upon us... don't let it ruin your travel plans!
I once got extremely ill in Paris and it ruined the entire 4 days I was there. I'm determined to never let that happen again, so here are my tips for not letting it happen to you either!
5 tips to avoid getting sick while traveling:
1. Double the amount of water you drink
Make this a habit in general, but especially when your body is moving at 100 MPH (as is often the case when you’re exploring a foreign country). Staying hydrated will keep you more energized for your travel excursions.
2. Daily Vitamin C
Vitamin C boosts your immune system which is extremely important when you’re traveling abroad. Being exposed to foreign environments could cause you to get sick especially if you haven’t had sufficient sleep or water. Don’t risk losing precious vacation time; take Vitamin C every day to combat those international germs. Here’s a link to my favorite flavor!
3. Pack anti-bacterial wipes/hand sanitizer
These serve many purposes; during/after flights, before/after eating, when you’ve been touching door handles, and any other time really. This is one of those must have carry-on items to avoid getting sick from planes.
4. Don’t bite your nails or touch your face
This is especially important on an airplane or just after you’ve flown. Airplanes carry hundreds of people daily and you never know who was previously in your seat. Avoid touching your face often, and definitely no nail biting as you could easily transmit germs.
5. Don’t deprive yourself of sleep
This is hard to do, especially because you want to spend as much time as possible exploring your destination. My body seems to be more susceptible to illness when I haven’t gotten proper rest. Find a happy medium between seeing as much as possible and getting more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night. You want to enjoy your destination, which you won't be able to do if inadequate sleep causes you to get sick!
